A chance meeting at University back in 1996, formed their solid friendship, working on Film production projects together. Little did they know that this technical teamwork would be the essential ingredients of OrtzRoka in the making.
A trip to New York City eight years later is where the idea for OrtzRoka was born. It was there that Fab Ortiz and Charles Rokamora discovered that House Music was evolving. Influences from other genres were seeping through, giving the music diversity and introducing it to a new generation of clubbers.
Back in London, driven by their passion for music OrtzRoka began throwing their own clubnight "Fix", attracting hundreds of club goers every week. DJing at London’s finest venues for cutting edge music (Turnmills and The Cross), they soon realized that simply playing records wasn’t enough; it was time to enter the studio to produce their own tracks and to create original edits for their DJ sets.
They started honing their production skills, fusing their vast musical influences which enabled them to zigzag fluidly across genres. Their first track "Fell Through That" received strong support from the likes of Ben Watt, Mike Monday, Plump DJ's, Demi, Martijn Ten Velden, Mark Hughes, Redanka, Filthy Rich and the Trophy Twins.
Fast forward to Summer 2006 and the OrtzRoka boys have already edited Rui Da Silva’s remix of CCCP ‘Rakety’ (DSR003) which went to claim no.2 in the Beatport Techno chart as well as remixing Justin Xara & DJ Criminal’s 5000KWTS (DSR004) which has been the pick of the remixes and is to be included on Nic Fancuilli’s upcoming Renaissance compilation. They also have their original tracks ‘T2 (DSR006) and ‘Trick Me’ (873 Recordings) coming out in the autumn, as well as the official release of ‘Fell Through That’ (Bicycle Raid).
A variety of remixes are also in the pipeline for artists on Ubantorque, Saved Records, G-Club Records and Deeper Substance.
When they’re not perfecting newly born tracks, you can find them at one of their London residencies at Turnmills, The Cross and Pacha OrtzRoka have recently made appearances at The Key in London, Bora Bora in Ibiza, B.U.M.B in Rotterdam and Rockit in Paris.
Keep an eye out for these boys as they bring you more infectious OrtzRoka grooves, soon to be incorporating special live sets, and exciting new plans for an artist album.
